SKA: The Sejong Korean Language Assessment

The Sejong Korean Language Assessment (SKA) is a basic and practical Korean language test that evaluates the Korean communication abilities of learners around the world. For more detailed information, please visit ska.ksif.or.kr.

Objective of the Exam

This exam aims to establish an effective Korean language learning path for people whose native language is not Korean and to promote the use of the Korean language.

Eligibility

Those learning Korean as a second or foreign language.

Exam Level and Score

  • Subjects: 4 areas (Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking)
  • Levels: 6 total (Beginner 1–2, Intermediate 1–2, Advanced 1–2)
  • Scoring :
    • Beginner: 101–310 points
    • Intermediate: 311–520 points
    • Advanced: 521–800 points

Sejong Korean Language Assessment (SKA) Implementation Method

  • Total Questions: 113 Questions (Listening 50 / Reading 50 / Writing 5 / Speaking 8)
  • Total Duration: 170 Minutes (Listening 50 / Reading 50 / Writing 50 / Speaking 20)
  • Total Score: 200 points per section, for a total of 800 points
  • Testing Methods: Mixed (PBT for Written / iBT for Speaking)

Use of Test Results

  • As of December 2025, SKA scores are currently being utilized for:

    • Visa Issuance: Study abroad visa requirements at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Uzbekistan.
    • University Admissions & Academic Requirements:
      • Major entry requirements for Yonsei University’s Global Institute of Theology.
      • Language proficiency requirements for admission to Korea University, Kookmin University, Wonkwang University, Yeungnam University, Geoje University, Kyungwoon University, Sungkyul University, and Anyang University.
    • Scholarships: Selection of AMA+ scholars at the Korea National University of Arts./ Selection of scholars for the POSCO TJ Park Foundation.
